Light pollution

Since this was my first test of a star trail photo I'm technically satisfied enough. But the light pollution is a bit too high. I'm very keen on continue this experiment, but now I'm back in Hamburg, an always glowing city and with an even more light polluted sky, so I guess no more of these experiments for a while.

The light to the left is from a city with 18000 inhabitants around 20km away (Hässleholm).

Exposure time is a bit more than 1h.

Albert, this is wonderful! I think the light pollution adds to the composition. One day I will get around to trying this.

I see you have a new camera, I have two questions, how do you like it and have you used it for video?

@Ralph Jones: Hi Ralph! Thanks for your comments. I love the 7D. The upgrade from 40D was a big step, especially when it comes to iso and noise, and that alone felt like a reason to upgrade. Other smaller things I like (compared to the 40D) are for example, the view finder (brighter and 100%), many focus points and possibility to quickly chose cluster of points for the AF, bracketing goes to /-3 and exposure compensation goes to /-5, weather proofed body, etc... I'm very happy with the 7D. I had it for about half a year, but I'm still excited over it. I have not yet made any serious attempts for filming. I plan to do it as soon as I upgrade my PC. It is just to slow for video handling. Please send me a mail if there is anything else you would like to know...

As someone who's recently taken up astronomy, light pollution is my bane. However, you've made it work for you beautifully in this shot.

Beautiful capture. Well worth the sixty minutes. I am still wanting to experiment with this as well.

What a terrific experiment Albert, I just know my camera would fail the noise would be a disaster!

Very nice job. I live in a very sparsely populated area, I'll have to try this.

Wow.. great.. I like how the stars are blue against the golden sky. I don't see it as a negative though I am sure you were trying for something different.
