I'm back from holidays... Here is a photo from last week inside the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg before the lights went out and the performance started. 3 shots freehand HDR.

Albert, your back!!! I really like your HDR and Tone Mapping shots and this is no exception. Great work.
Isn't Photomatix the greatest $100 one can spend? You can have hours of fun with that product.

@The Big Guy: Hi Big Guy! Thanks for your positive response to my return:) and your comment on my shot. I agree, Photomatix is pure fun.

Florence from Paris, France

I wish you a very nice and happy New Year Albert, first of all.
That's a nice HDR image. Powerful, rich and warm as a theater can be. This is also what I like with HDR. Each and evryone of us has his/her own way to manage HDR post-processing technics. It can be so different from one blog to another. This one is really eye-catching and fascoinating. Well done again.

@Florence: Thanks Florence! All the best for the new year to you too!

Outstanding tone mapping Albert, I'd be overjoyed to produce an image such as this, unfortunately my shortest lens is only 27mm (35mm equivalent.)
Takes your breath away does this!

The theatre is just stunning. The only thing I might try to do is tone it down in the audience just a little. Their faces are as red as the seats and they somewhat vanish into the upholstery. If you wanted to blend them out like that then this is perfect. The focus goes right to the wonderful architecture.

@Self-Indulgence: Thanks! Good remark, and I agree with you. Actually, the redness of the lower area of the image is already locally decreased in the version you comment on, since also I found the people looking like lobsters from the start. I should have done it more, I will try to make an update of the shot this weekend.

Welcome back, Albert! A stunning HDR creation where the theatre almost feels like it's wrapping around me. Great textures and colors as well.
